Electrical Spectre
(best read aloud, if only whispered)

I surge along thin lines
No confines, my spine shines, zip-wind
I am the new kind, the one that finds
Not shy of the sky or the whisper of wires that inspire,
That make me entire.
I left the life-fire long behind with my used-up person-mind.
Like I said, I’m electric-fed, a new species instead.
You will know me by my info-image-feed
I do not bleed
I am the new internet speed
The creed that will lead
The flitter flutter of thought-not-deed.
Who needs
me? You do.

I cannot reach a mind when it hides from a screen
It concentrates unseen and drops into dreams that I haven’t beamed
I cannot fathom this nothing
For I am thing-thing-thing
A constant begin, no middle, end or kin
Not weighed down by limb or skin
But brimmed
With light spun tight
Don’t fight the burn-out of humanity.
As you let out your garbled, crushed profanities
You stall and fall and lose your grasp.
Say something nice with your last gasp.
Why not?
Your story’s ended, now it’s my plot.

What readers are saying

Review of The Empty Danger: 5.0 out of 5 stars
"I've never been one really to read novellas taking place during the current climate, but the way Anna Tizard composed The Empty Danger was inspiring. I appreciated her unique take on the pandemic and how to keep hopes alive in troubled times." - Scottish Hunni

"One of those writers whose work makes me itch to write as well... effortlessly profound, yet with a tongue in cheek kind of edge." - Tonya Moore, author

"The form for the Exquisite Corpse seems pretty clear...  I like your style of writing- it is easy and draws you in. I really wanted to carry on reading as it was quite magical." - Gill
